What is Peppol?

Peppol (Pan-European Public Procurement Online) is a pan-European network for the secure and standardized exchange of electronic invoices. It enables companies to exchange invoices directly between their accounting systems, reducing manual processes and increasing efficiency.

What does this mean for your company?

  • Obligation to e-invoice: From January 1, 2026, all companies subject to VAT in Belgium must exchange structured electronic invoices in Peppol format.
  • International business relations: Businesses outside Belgium that send invoices to or receive invoices from Belgian businesses must also comply with the new requirements.
  • Technical preparation: Companies should ensure that their accounting software is Peppol-compatible and that they have a valid Peppol ID.
